Our Efland Bat Control Services

Triangle Wildlife Removal & Pest Control, Inc. provides bat exclusion, guano cleanup, attic sanitization, and bat house installation for homes across Efland, North Carolina. We use one-way exclusion devices that let bats leave on their own, then seal every opening so they cannot return.
North Carolina law protects bats from trapping, killing, and poisoning. The only legal method is live exclusion. We follow NWCOA Bat Standards on every job, including the mandatory maternity season closure from May 1 through July 31 when flightless pups are present.
Efland sits along US-70 about three miles west of Hillsborough, near the I-40/I-85 junction in rural Orange County. Farms, older homes, and wooded lots throughout the area give bats plenty of roosting options. We offer free bat inspections for Efland properties. Visit our Efland wildlife removal services page to learn about everything we handle in this community.
We carry $5 million in general liability insurance. We are NWCOA members and the exclusive animal removal provider endorsed by Wildlife Welfare Inc., a 501(c)(3) based in Apex, North Carolina.
Health Risks From Bats in Efland
Bats are the leading source of rabies transmission to humans in the United States. A bat bite can be so small you never feel it, which is why the CDC guidance on rabies and bats recommends medical evaluation any time a bat is found in a room with a sleeping person, child, or pet.
Bat guano grows a fungus called Histoplasma capsulatum. Breathing in the spores causes histoplasmosis, a lung infection that can become serious in people with weakened immune systems. Attic cleanups must be handled with proper respirators and containment.
Bat bugs look almost identical to bed bugs and feed on bat blood. Once a colony is excluded and the bugs lose their host, they migrate into living spaces looking for a new meal. Removing bats without treating for bat bugs often leads to a second problem inside the home.
Bats in Efland, NC
Seventeen bat species live in North Carolina. Nine of those carry some level of conservation status, and four are federally listed as endangered. The NC State Extension guide to bats covers identification, habitat, and the ecological role bats play in controlling insects across the state.
The big brown bat and little brown bat are the two species we remove most often from Efland homes. Both prefer attics, wall voids, and soffit gaps where temperatures stay warm and stable through the summer months.
Bats squeeze through gaps as narrow as 3/8 of an inch. Older farmhouses and barns along US-70 are especially vulnerable because of aging rooflines and loose siding. The wooded lots and rural stretches near the I-40/I-85 junction in Orange County support healthy bat populations year after year.
Signs of Bats in Your Home
Bats are quiet tenants, but they leave clues. If you notice any of the following, call us for a free inspection.
- Guano accumulation. Bat droppings are small, dark pellets that pile up directly under roosting areas. You may find them in the attic, on porches below soffit gaps, or on the ground along the foundation. They crumble easily and contain shiny insect parts.
- Staining at entry points. Bats leave dark, oily rub marks around the gaps they use to get in and out. Over time, these stains become visible on soffits, fascia boards, and brick or siding surfaces.
- Squeaking and scratching at dusk. Bats wake around sunset and make high-pitched squeaking or chittering sounds before leaving the roost. You may hear light scratching in the attic or walls. The sounds are higher and softer than what squirrels or rats make.
- Bats flying from the roofline at dusk. Step outside at sunset and watch the edges of your roof for 15 to 20 minutes. Bats leaving from the same gap each evening confirms an active roost inside.
- Strong ammonia smell. A large buildup of guano and urine produces a sharp ammonia odor in the attic. On hot days, the smell can seep into the living space below.
Bat Exclusion and Guano Cleanup
Every bat job begins with a free inspection. Derek Cline, our staff zoologist with 15 years of field experience, personally oversees bat work in Efland, NC. He identifies every entry point, maps the colony size, and builds a removal plan specific to your home.
We install one-way exclusion devices at active entry points so bats can fly out at night but cannot re-enter. If maternity season is active between May 1 and July 31, we schedule the exclusion for after pups are flying to stay in full compliance with state and federal regulations.
Once the colony is gone, we permanently seal every gap, crack, and opening on the structure. Our sealing work comes with a limited lifetime warranty so bats stay out for good.
After exclusion and sealing, we remove all guano from the attic, sanitize contaminated surfaces, and treat for bat bugs if they are present. We also install bat houses on the property when the homeowner wants one, giving the evicted colony a safe place to roost nearby.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you remove bats from my attic during the summer?
Not between May 1 and July 31. North Carolina prohibits bat exclusion during this window because flightless pups would be trapped inside. If you call us during maternity season, we will inspect your home, document all entry points, and have everything ready to begin exclusion on August 1.
How do one-way exclusion devices work?
A one-way device is a tube or netting installed over the bat’s entry point. Bats push through the device when they leave to feed at night, but they cannot navigate back in from the outside. The devices stay up for several days until every bat has exited, then we seal the openings permanently.
Is bat guano dangerous?
Yes. Bat guano can contain spores of the fungus that causes histoplasmosis, a respiratory infection. The risk is highest when dried droppings are disturbed and spores go airborne. Professional cleanup with proper respiratory protection and containment is the safe approach.
Do you offer free bat inspections?
Yes. We provide free bat inspections for homeowners in the Efland area. The inspection covers your entire roofline and attic to identify active entry points, guano buildup, and colony size. There is no cost or obligation.

Our Wildlife Removal Services
Triangle Wildlife Removal handles every step from inspection through removal, exclusion, damage repair, and attic restoration. Below are the most common wildlife problems we solve in Raleigh homes.
Bat Removal
Bats in your attic create health hazards from guano buildup and carry rabies risk. We perform full exclusion using one-way doors during the legal window of August through April, then seal every entry point on the structure.
Flying Squirrel Removal
Flying squirrels enter attics through gaps as small as a quarter and are most active at night during cold months. We trap, remove, and seal every construction gap at the roofline to keep them out permanently.
Squirrel Removal
Gray squirrels chew through fascia, soffits, and wiring to nest in attics, creating fire hazards and structural damage. We remove active squirrels with live traps and exclude them by sealing every entry point on the structure.
Raccoon Removal
Raccoons tear open soffits, rip through roof decking, and contaminate attic insulation with feces carrying raccoon roundworm. We trap and remove raccoons humanely, repair the damage they caused, and seal the structure to prevent re-entry.
Rodent Control
Rats and mice enter through pipe chases, A/C line penetrations, and foundation vents, contaminating insulation and chewing wiring. We trap and remove active rodents inside the structure and seal every exterior entry point to stop the cycle.
Bird Control
European starlings and house sparrows nest inside exhaust vents, dryer vents, and attic spaces, blocking airflow and creating fire hazards. We remove nesting material, install bird-proof vent covers, and clean contaminated ductwork.
Snake Removal
Snakes enter crawlspaces, garages, and basements through foundation gaps and pipe penetrations. We safely remove the snake, identify the species, and seal entry points to keep them from coming back.
Wildlife Exclusion
Wildlife exclusion seals every vulnerable opening on your home to prevent animals from getting in. We inspect the full structure, identify active entries and potential weak points, and install commercial-grade barriers backed by a limited lifetime warranty.
