North Carolina city ends up in rodent-infested ranking

Charlotte, North Carolina has been ranked as one of the most rat-infested cities in America recently. It dropped seven spots from the previous year, going from number twenty-two to number twenty-nine. As the weather turns colder, rodents often seek shelter in warm places with food and water at their disposal, i.e. your home. The National Pest Management Association estimates that 24 percent of homeowners report rodent infestations, yearly.

The CDC has put out valuable information when it comes to preventing, cleaning and controlling a rodent infestation. Controlling a rat infestation is important because, according to the CDC, rats and other rodents carry and can transmit over 35 diseases to humans. Many of these diseases have to be spread through direct contact with a rodents saliva, feces or urine. However, there are some diseases that can be passed on through indirect contact via ticks, mites, and fleas. These diseases can be prevented by proper rodent control through trapping, sealing even the smallest entries into your home and eliminating any food sources.
