Our Wilsons Mills Bat Control Services

Wilson's Mills Bat Removal Services

Triangle Wildlife Removal & Pest Control, Inc. provides bat exclusion, guano cleanup, attic sanitization, and bat house installation for homes across Wilson’s Mills, North Carolina. We use one-way exclusion devices that let bats leave on their own and then seal every opening so they cannot return.

North Carolina law protects bats as beneficial wildlife. That means no trapping, killing, or poisoning is allowed. Exclusion is the only legal removal method, and exclusion work must stop during the maternity season from May 1 through July 31, when flightless pups could be sealed inside. Our technicians follow the NWCOA Bat Standards on every job.

We also offer a full range of Wilson’s Mills wildlife removal services beyond bats. Wilson’s Mills sits in Johnston County near Smithfield, just off I-40 and I-42. Incorporated in 1996, the town still has a rural character with creeks and wooded areas surrounding its residential neighborhoods. If you suspect bats in your attic, call us for a free bat inspection.

We carry $5 million in general liability insurance. We are NWCOA members and the exclusive animal removal provider endorsed by Wildlife Welfare Inc., a 501(c)(3) based in Apex, North Carolina.

Health Risks From Bats in Wilson’s Mills

Bats are one of the leading carriers of rabies in North Carolina. A bat bite can be painless, and some people have been exposed to rabies in their sleep without knowing it. Any bat found in a room with a sleeping person should be captured and tested.

Bat droppings grow a fungus called Histoplasma capsulatum. Breathing in the spores can cause histoplasmosis, a lung infection that hits hardest in people with weakened immune systems. The CDC histoplasmosis overview explains the symptoms and risk factors in detail.

Bat bugs are another problem that comes with a colony in your walls or attic. These parasites look almost identical to bed bugs and will move into living spaces once the bats are gone. Removing the guano and treating the roost area is the only way to get rid of them for good.

Bats in Wilson’s Mills, NC

Seventeen bat species live in North Carolina. Nine of those hold some level of conservation status, and four are federally listed as endangered. The NC State Extension guide to bats covers identification, habits, and legal protections for each species found in the state.

The big brown bat and the little brown bat are the two species most likely to roost inside buildings. Both prefer warm, dark spaces like attics, wall cavities, and behind shutters.

Bats can squeeze through a gap as narrow as 3/8 of an inch. The creeks and wooded areas around Wilson’s Mills give bats plenty of natural habitat, but homes offer steady warmth and shelter they cannot pass up. Much of the town’s housing stock dates from after the 1996 incorporation, yet even newer construction develops gaps at soffits, ridge vents, and where different building materials meet.

Signs of Bats in Your Home

Most bat colonies go unnoticed at first because the animals are quiet during the day. Here are the warning signs our technicians look for during inspections.

  • Guano accumulation. Bat droppings are small, dark pellets that pile up below roosting spots. You may find them in the attic, on windowsills, or along the foundation below entry points. They crumble easily and contain shiny insect fragments.
  • Staining at entry points. Body oils from bat fur leave dark, greasy rub marks around the gaps bats use to enter and exit. These stains build up over time on soffits, fascia, and siding.
  • Squeaking and scratching at dusk. Bats become active around sunset and make high-pitched sounds as they prepare to leave. You may hear scratching or chittering in the attic or walls, lighter and higher than what squirrels or rats produce.
  • Bats flying from the roofline at dusk. Watch your roofline around sunset. If bats stream out from the same gap in the soffit or ridge vent each evening, there is a colony inside.
  • Strong ammonia smell. Large guano accumulations produce a sharp ammonia odor that can push into the living space below the attic, especially on warm days.

Bat Exclusion and Guano Cleanup

Every bat job starts with a free inspection. Derek Cline, our staff zoologist with 15 years of field experience, oversees the process from start to finish for homeowners in Wilson’s Mills, NC. He identifies the species, counts the colony, and maps every entry point on the structure.

We install one-way exclusion devices at active entry points so bats can fly out but cannot get back in. If we discover the colony during the maternity season, we schedule the exclusion for August once the pups can fly on their own.

After the colony has cleared out, we permanently seal every gap, crack, and opening on the building envelope. Our sealing work comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

The final step is guano removal and full attic sanitization. We bag and haul out all contaminated insulation, treat the area for bat bugs if present, and apply antimicrobial agents to the framing. We also install bat houses nearby so the displaced colony has a safe place to roost away from your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can’t you remove bats from my attic during the summer?

North Carolina’s bat maternity season runs from May 1 through July 31. During that window, pups are too young to fly. Sealing the building while they are inside would trap them, which violates state wildlife regulations. We schedule exclusion work before or after this period so every bat can leave safely.

How do one-way exclusion devices work?

A one-way device is a tube or netting placed over the bat’s main exit. Bats crawl through it to leave at dusk but cannot figure out how to re-enter from the outside. After a few nights the colony relocates, and we remove the devices and seal the openings permanently.

Is bat guano dangerous to my family?

Yes. Dried guano can release Histoplasma spores into the air when disturbed. Breathing those spores may lead to histoplasmosis, a respiratory infection. Professional cleanup with proper respirators and containment is the safest approach.

Do you offer free bat inspections in the Wilson’s Mills area?

We do. A trained technician will visit your property at no charge, inspect the attic and roofline, identify any bat activity, and give you a written estimate before any work begins.

Our Wildlife Removal Services

Triangle Wildlife Removal handles every step from inspection through removal, exclusion, damage repair, and attic restoration. Below are the most common wildlife problems we solve in Raleigh homes.

Bat Removal

Bats in your attic create health hazards from guano buildup and carry rabies risk. We perform full exclusion using one-way doors during the legal window of August through April, then seal every entry point on the structure.

Flying Squirrel Removal

Flying squirrels enter attics through gaps as small as a quarter and are most active at night during cold months. We trap, remove, and seal every construction gap at the roofline to keep them out permanently.

Squirrel Removal

Gray squirrels chew through fascia, soffits, and wiring to nest in attics, creating fire hazards and structural damage. We remove active squirrels with live traps and exclude them by sealing every entry point on the structure.

Raccoon Removal

Raccoons tear open soffits, rip through roof decking, and contaminate attic insulation with feces carrying raccoon roundworm. We trap and remove raccoons humanely, repair the damage they caused, and seal the structure to prevent re-entry.

Rodent Control

Rats and mice enter through pipe chases, A/C line penetrations, and foundation vents, contaminating insulation and chewing wiring. We trap and remove active rodents inside the structure and seal every exterior entry point to stop the cycle.

Bird Control

European starlings and house sparrows nest inside exhaust vents, dryer vents, and attic spaces, blocking airflow and creating fire hazards. We remove nesting material, install bird-proof vent covers, and clean contaminated ductwork.

Snake Removal

Snakes enter crawlspaces, garages, and basements through foundation gaps and pipe penetrations. We safely remove the snake, identify the species, and seal entry points to keep them from coming back.

Wildlife Exclusion

Wildlife exclusion seals every vulnerable opening on your home to prevent animals from getting in. We inspect the full structure, identify active entries and potential weak points, and install commercial-grade barriers backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Why Homeowners Choose Triangle Wildlife Removal

Bat removal has been a core part of our work since Tad Bassett founded this company in 1990. He's been running it full-time since January 1996 and still answers the phone himself. That kind of continuity is rare in this industry, and it's a big part of why customers keep calling back. In a detailed expert interview published by the Regency Park Partnership, a community resource serving over 244,000 Nextdoor neighbors across the Triangle, Tad covered everything from seasonal bat behavior and NC exclusion regulations to disease risks like histoplasmosis and homeowner prevention tips.

All technicians on our team are Ridge-Guard Certified, Bird Barrier Certified, and certified in advanced metal fabrication for bat exclusion and damage repairs. Triangle Wildlife Removal is the largest installer of Ridge-Guard on the East Coast, a distinction the company has held for approximately five years. Ridge-Guard is one of the most effective tools for sealing ridge vents, one of the most common bat entry points on residential rooflines. Every bat exclusion job is backed by a limited lifetime warranty - if bats get back through a sealed entry point, we come back to address it at no charge.
